We arrived in Chicago at eleven thirty pm, or twelve thirty by Michigan reckoning. Luckily we made it to Roosevelt University before the building closed to guests, but it was almost too close for comfort.
Dorm rooms are too much for me, there is way too much going on, though it was cool to see that side of things for a moment. It sort of felt like summer camp or something, screaming kids everywhere, and not an adult in sight.
We woke up in the morning to a spectacular view of the city that had not been apparent the previous night. Being thirty one floors up in a building that overlooked Millennium Park was a pretty sweet opportunity that we were very lucky to have, thanks to Mallory!
Being guests on campus, we had to vacate before classes started, but we were able to leave our backpacks in the dorm and explore Chicago unladen. Instead of taking the standard tourist route, we walked southwest for a few hours until we got out of the downtown area, and then explored the streets, eventually finding ourselves in Tommy's music store and trading post.
It was not until around five that we made it back to the dorms, we sat around for a while, and then were treated to a very wonderful Chicago Style pizza by our wonderful host, and were soon joined by her wonderful roommate. Isn't Chicago a wonderful place?
It was cool walking around downtown after dinner with some people who had at least a vague idea of where they were headed. The little park by the river was really peaceful, until a nearby couple decided to move past the kissing phase of the night, and jump right in to the good stuff.
There is some pretty crazy public art over here, pig sculptures and large black and white metaphors for modern day society being only a few of them.
I finally got a good dose of animated TV comedies, something that I have been missing dearly on the road. Can you believe I am going to miss the new season of South Park?
Haha summons gateways to other dimensions.. Glad you guys are having fun! Love all these pictures c:
