It has officially been two weeks since we left home, and five days since I showered. I smell, really bad.
Waking up under a bridge was not quite as cool as falling asleep under one, but we got a good night of uninterrupted sleep, so no complaints.
We saw some corn yesterday, it was pretty neat.
We spent last night in a place called Braceville Illinois, where they seemed quite shocked to see out of town folk on a Sunday evening. After sitting for a few hours waiting for the sun to set, we got out our mosquito nets and sleeping bags, and made to crash on some picnic tables.
While the towns well mannered inhabitants left us alone, the constant trains, barking dogs, and musquitos who must not have noticed we were wearing mosquito netting, kept our sleep light and our dreams at bay.
Despite a rather sleepless night, and a blazing ninety six degree day, we managed to make it fourteen miles today down route 66. I think this road is a lot nicer to cruise than to walk...
We find ourselves tonight outside a train station in Dwight, where we hope to get at least a few moments rest, despite the mosquitoes and lack of soft ground.
Guess what? The temperature tomorrow is going to be ninety six again! Isn't that something?
All complaining aside, it is cool to finally feel like we are making our way across the country. The open expanses of fields on either side of an endless highway are uplifting, though tiring as well.
I wonder when my next shower will be... it may be a while at this rate...
